Keyword Demographics

Keyword Spelling and Demographics

Some of the information being marketed on keyword research and optimization recommends you use all possible spellings and combination’s of a keyword. That can lead you down an unprofitable path… especially if you are using Adwords to get visitors.

I was doing some research on a possible site to create and noticed that certain spellings of keywords had a high traffic indicator BUT in a language that I don’t use. The point is I would be wasting my efforts to use those particular keywords in my website SEO information. Here… I’ll show you what I mean.

If you do a search for fatloss using Google Insights you will see the following demographics:

fatloss search

fatloss search

fatloss search

fatloss search

We see that the majority of traffic comes from Puerto Rico – as I understand it, a predominately Spanish speaking Country although English is commonly spoken also.

Now let’s do a search for “fat loss” – two words.

fat loss search

fat loss search

We see that Puerto Rico is still the highest traffic but we also have the US, Australia, Canada, South Africa, and New Zealand showing high traffic.

So, after looking at the demographics, I would optimize my Weight Loss website for the word “fat loss” first in my keywords “Meta Tag.” That does not mean leave out “fatloss” in your keywords, just be sure not to place it in the first few keywords you list.

Adwords advertisers will definitely want to do a demographics search before they structure their campaigns. It only takes a little time but can save you a LOT of money by not bidding on keywords that don’t pertain to your sites market or language.
